Akamai Technical Academy is a training program designed for people who have an interest and aptitude for technology but may not come from a traditional technical background. We are built to empower diverse talent with technical work-ready skills, whether or not you have any technology experience.
We are currently accepting applications for our eighth cohort set to launch in both Costa Rica and Poland in November 2019. The application period will remain open until August 31, 2019 and interviews will take place onsite in the Akamai office in the second half of September 2019. Akamai Technical Academy is a 12-month training program designed to prepare participants for an entry-level role at Akamai. Basic qualifications include: an education level equivalent with local industry-standard hiring practices, written and verbal English fluency, the ability to attend the program full-time, and a demonstrated interest in technology.* For the full list of qualifications, see our FAQ below.
New this year, we are introducing a blended learning solution for program participants in both Krakow, Poland and San Jose, Costa Rica. Participants will learn and collaborate together, both in-person and virtually, similar to how our employees work. More information on the format of the program will be shared during the interview process.
The eighth Akamai Technical Academy cohort will be an operations-based class taught entirely in English. The program is designed to give all participants the necessary training to prepare for an entry-level role at Akamai (for examples of operations-based roles, please refer to the FAQ). Together with our training partner, we provide everything needed to prepare for a role at Akamai.**

What is the goal of the Akamai Technical Academy?

How do I apply? What is the selection process?
If you would like to be considered for the program, please complete the registration form on the trainingintech.com site. Initial eligibility will be determined based on the basic qualifications listed below. If you meet the basic qualifications, the next step is to complete an online assessment. The pre-interview assessment will be offered in early September and helps inform who moves forward in the process. Details about the assessment and how to access the tool remotely will be shared via email. The final step is an in-person interview. Interviews will take place at the local Akamai offices. Offers to join the program will be communicated at the end of September 2019 and class will start November 1, 2019.
What are the basic qualifications required of applicants?
The Akamai Technical Academy program is looking for smart people who want to work in tech but may need some support breaking into the industry.
Basic qualifications for the program are based on the industry standards in each location. All requirements for your location must be met in order to qualify for the program.

Will I be employed by Akamai during the training?
During the training and contract employment phases of the program, participants will be employed by a third-party partner for contingent workforce.
Conversion to permanent Akamai employee may occur after the completion of the training and strong performance during the contract employment phase of the program.
Participants must work in their contract role for a minimum of six months before becoming eligible to convert to Akamai employees. Conversions occur on an individual basis and timing may vary depending on a participant’s role.
Is this a paid training?
Yes! Participants will receive a training stipend. Participants receive a rate increase after successfully completing the training phase and moving into the contract employment phase of the program.
When does training start and how long is it expected to run?
Training is scheduled to start on November 1, 2019 and is expected to last approximately 5-months. Participants are expected to attend the training in-person 40 hours a week. Additional study time may be required outside of the classroom.
Where will the training take place? Is there public transportation near the location?
Because members of this class will be split between Costa Rica and Poland, training will take place in the Akamai offices in Krakow and San Jose. The interviews will also take place in the local Akamai offices. Details about the office locations and how to get there will be provided to those who qualify for an interview.
Who delivers the training?
A customized curriculum has been developed for this program by our training partner and is designed to prepare participants for a variety of entry-level roles at Akamai. The training will be delivered by instructors specifically selected for this program both onsite at the local Akamai Office and virtually.
What should I expect during training?
In the past, we’ve run ATA as a single-location classroom-based program. For this class, we are dividing the class between two locations. Half of the class will be in Krakow, Poland, and the other half will be in San Jose, Costa Rica. Class-time and instruction will be shared between the two locations, both in-person and virtually. Professional development and other Akamai programming will happen locally. Specifics of how the program will work this way will be shared at a later date.
Training requires a 40-hour a week, approximately 5 month commitment. Participants will attend classroom training during business hours in the Akamai office. They will complete a rigorous curriculum (including homework and assessments), attend regular presentations by Akamai business leaders and participate in other required events. Participants are advised to plan accordingly and to avoid taking personal or vacation time during this period.
What resources will be available to me during training?
Our training partner delivers training on the technical modules and program participants will be provided a laptop to access training materials online. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with Akamai employees during presentations, events and the ATA mentoring program. In addition, each location will have a Classroom Coach who manages the classroom and meets individually with participants to support their learning throughout the program.
How does the placement into roles at Akamai work?
Placement into contract assignments will be determined based on participant background, skills, interests and business needs, as well as any other pertinent inputs. Participants will be able to identify their preferred departments. However, our main objective is to place participants where they are most likely to succeed.
What positions are being offered and am I guaranteed a placement at Akamai?
Participants of this ATA class will be placed in a variety of operations-based roles supporting the business. Examples of operations-based roles include: security operations technician, associate technical program manager, associate technical support engineer, associate technical consultant, associate business analyst, and technical writer. Each participant will be placed in a role in their respective locations.
While the goal of the program is to place everyone in a contract role with Akamai, there are no guarantees that all participants will be working for Akamai at the end of their training period.
What if I live outside of either the Krakow area or the San Jose area and want to participate? Will there be a training near me?

The application period for the November 2019 Akamai Technical Academy cohort opened on July 1, 2019 and closes on August 31, 2019. Please register your interest using the form on our website. If I am not selected for this program, will I still be eligible in the future?
Individuals that are not selected for this Akamai Technical Academy class may be considered for future opportunities.
The classroom training schedule will follow the local Akamai holiday calendar. Participants will be given time off for holidays.
Will there be future opportunities like this program at Akamai?
The 2019 Poland/Costa Rica-based Akamai Technical Academy class will be the eighth class we have run. We are always assessing opportunities for future classes across our office locations.
